π Celebrating Enable Infrastructure’s Success on Network Rail’s Great Western Electrification Programme! π
11 August 2023
We are thrilled to announce another milestone achieved by Enable Infrastructure in collaboration with Network Rail (NR) on the prestigious GWEP – Great Western Electrification Programme. Our dedicated teams successfully completed works across Lot 1 (Wales Region-Mainline), and Lot 2 (Western Region-Mainline), contributing to enhanced rail connectivity.
With this close-out scheme, our teams undertook a massive cleaning-up exercise in removing old ballast, rail, scrap, and cables. This was combined with the installation of troughing (various cable management systems) and the construction of an access point stairway along with retaining walls. The project involved day and night operations at hundreds of separate locations, securing the rail line’s electrification and improving overall resilience and safety.
Our sister arm and engineering design specialist, Enable Design, played a crucial role in leading the design efforts for the retaining walls and access stairway at Maindee Newport Station. Their innovative designs and meticulous planning ensured a safe and effective solution that perfectly met project requirements.
Andrew Gurd, Network Rail Project Manager said: βI thank all the team personally involved in completing Lots 1 and 2 on the GWEP project. Itβs been a great team effort and collaboration with Enable.β
Andrew Wedlake, Enable Infrastructure Regional Manager said: βWe were really pleased to win the GWEP Lots 1 and 2 contracts last year, we knew they would be a challenging project, but due to the great effort by the site teams and the collaboration between NR and ourselves, we have successfully completed the project to all stakeholderβs satisfaction and praise.β
