Health and Safety

Across the Enable Group, we are always striving to improve safety by preventing accidents. We actively encourage the reporting of incidents by our employees and promote the See It, Sort It, Report It (SISIRI) reporting process, to help us understand how we can make working conditions safer for those at the point of risk.

Our SISIRI reporting process is essential for enhancing safety, as it identifies potential hazards before they lead to accidents. By encouraging reporting we also proactively address risks, improve processes and create a culture of transparency and continuous improvement. Our SISIRI process also helps in building trust, ultimately leading to a safer and more resilient workforce.

Our management team review every reported event that is submitted, to determine if it has the potential to cause significant harm or operational failure.  All reported events, are closed out and categorised, adding to our data so that we can spot incident trends.

Supervisor Transformed Programme: Paving the Way for Health & Safety Leadership at Enable

Enable’s Supervisor Transformed programme is our bespoke training initiative designed to empower frontline supervisors with advanced leadership skills. Accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management, this programme not only promotes health and safety but also provides a clear career pathway with enhanced promotional opportunities.

Delivered in partnership with STC Global, Supervisor Transformed offers three immersive, two-day modules built on the Listen, Do, Discuss, Action framework:

  • Listen – Trainer-led sessions focused on key skills.
  • Do – Hands-on activities with real Enable project data.
  • Discuss – Group discussions to explore challenges and insights.
  • Action – Development of strategies and actions for improvement on site.

This programme reinforces Enable’s core values: productivity and efficiency, safety and wellbeing, continuous improvement, a proactive ownership mindset, and collaboration. By embodying these principles, supervisors not only enhance their leadership and safety skills but also contribute to our mission of delivering infrastructure solutions that create lasting community value. Through this programme, supervisors gain recognition within Enable, positioning themselves for future career advancement and making a meaningful impact on our projects and the communities we serve.

Our Watch My Back cultural change programme is an integral forum that strengthens awareness and understanding. It enhances employee and stakeholder engagement, motivates our teams and increases morale, while encouraging better collaboration and communication across departments.

Watch My Back allows us to present and discuss relevant issues with all stakeholders including the client, the Enable leadership team, the supply chain, and site teams, in a dedicated and intensive manner that promotes vital safety messaging, alongside industry best practices.

This embedded cultural change programme has been running for over a decade and has enabled us to progress further on our cultural maturity ladder.  The programme promotes aligned behaviours with our strategic goals and brings further meaning to our core values here at Enable which underpin our strategic business plans.

Enable’s health and wellbeing initiatives focus on a variety of programs and are aimed at improving physical, mental, and emotional wellness of our employees and local communities. We have trained Mental Health First Aiders in all areas of the business. The group also utilises a mobile employee health and wellbeing assistance app which is available for all staff.  This includes support for mental health and aligns with our partnership with Lighthouse – the construction charity.

Our Health and Wellbeing Value Group is well established, which focuses on discussions around health and wellbeing with our senior leaders and the workforce. We focus on our initiatives which supports our holistic approach to employee health, balance and workplace satisfaction.

Enable utilises a bespoke root causation tool, Comet, which helps streamline and manage incident reporting as well as overall compliance. The system helps us log, categorise, and analyse each underlying root cause to enable us to implement the required corrective actions.

We have proactively used this data to formalise a strategy around our most significant risks.  This has enhanced compliance and proactively improved our safety culture by ensuring corrective actions are in place to mitigate harm to those at the point of risk.
